First Post, First Person

I have this idea to meet and learn the name of a one new person everyday. It could be as simple as just formally introducing myself to a person that I occasionally see in my office building, like that that guy guys who looks like Huey Lewis. Or maybe learning the name of the barista who has been making coffee for me for years at my favorite coffee shop. Really, I hope to get to the point were I actually engage with and learn the name of the "random" stranger sitting next to me at the square while eating lunch.

On a whole, I already converse with new people pretty much every day, but I never take the time to learn their name. A simple gesture. It seems like a nice thing to do. Who knows, maybe I'll make a new friend or two along the way.

I started yesterday, Tuesday, June 12. The first person I met is a woman in my office building. I see her occasionally in the elevator or coming and going outside in the street. She is always positive and, quite often, pays me a compliment. Yesterday she told me I looked nice. I was wearing a sports jacket that I keep in the office and it dressed me up a little more than usual. I apologized for never actually introducing myself. If a woman tells you that you look nice, geez, at least get here name! She told me that she works as the admin / accounting  person in a law firm on the 10th (?) floor of our building. I told her where I work and it turns out she's met people from my office in the building's gym.  Then we stepped out onto the sidewalk and parted ways for lunch.

And now I know that her name is Dee.
